[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]Field of Glory is a turn-based strategy wargame originally developed by HexWar and published for the PC by Slitherine. It’s based on an eponymous tabletop gaming system. The Mac release of Field of Glory comprises the original game and three expansion packs – Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire.

Field of Glory in its original form focuses on historical warfare set during the rise of Rome, starting with the Battle of Zama (marking the end of the Second Punic War) to Boudica’s revolt in Britain. The expansion packs take battles far beyond, to the medieval period, Greek & Persian wars and Macedonian & Punic wars. There are 18 different sizes of scenarios – everything from skirmishes to epic battles, and a “Scenario Builder” lets you create your own custom scenarios, populating them with more than 141 different battle groups.

The game features single player and two-player head to head modes, Internet multiplayer and Play By E-Mail (PBEM).

System requirements call for a 1.6GHz Intel processor or faster, 512MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4 or later (10.6 recommended), 512MB free hard disk space.

Actually, this game has been available from slitherine since June 30. Also the first basic game contains battles throughout the ancient and medieval era, and does not necessarily involve the Romans. The Rise of Rome expansion focusses on Rome and it’s enemies during the rise, Immortal Fire focusses on the Macedonian era, while Storm of Arrows focusses on the late medieval era. There are 5 more expansions currently planned, based on the table top expansions.
