∞ Video: Samsung Galaxy Tab in action

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is its answer to Apple’s market leading iPad. Samsung’s device features a 7-inch screen and runs the Android OS. It also features support for Flash Player 10.1 in the Android browser. The video shows lots of features, including ones that will be very familiar to iPad users.

It looks awkward. It looks too small to hold with both hands and too big to hold comfortably with one.

I will be surprised if this is a consumer hit, I think it will go down well with the Android crowd but for general consumers I am not so sure.

    iPad clone!

Not a bad looking device. Lots of nice features.

But what gets me is the size. Too close to phone size for a tablet.

The iPad strikes a better size compromise along the size spectrum between smart phones and laptops.

This device definitely beats the iPad hands down when it comes to features. HDMI out?!! sweet! Flash?!! nice, Video and voice calls?? even better. I have an iPad, and I am now thinking of getting the Galay Tab.

The interesting thing is the lack of a price, there is always a reason when the price is withheld–generally because it is expensive.

There are some very interesting ideas here – like the mirroring of the display on a tv. But it hurts a little to see the amount of ‘borrowing’ they’ve done with the interface. It amazes me that so many android devices use the same ‘slide left to right to unlock’ idea… The highlighting of text and the selection widgets (given the amount of crap Apple received for not providing cut and paste -how it was supposed to be easy to implement – and then the method they use is copied by all competitors). Inertial scrolling, slide left/right on home pages (at least palmos had the wonderful cards metaphor – something I wish apple had purchased).

It’s kind of bizarre to watch this video. It looks like a very capable device, but it would be great to see some innovation, rather than just copying others.

Must feel good when a company with $250B in assets and $10B in annual revenue can do nothing more than create a “me too” version of your product and try to compete solely on price.

What a shameless UI ripoff. I’m sure it’ll give Apple-hating hypocrites a wonderful user experience.
