∞ Apple's iOS almost 6 times larger than Android on the Web

Apple’s iOS mobile operating system is more popular on the Web than Android and Linux, according to new research data from Net Applications.

The research shows that iOS has grown from 0.44 percent in October 2009 to 1.13 percent in August 2010. Over that same period, Google’s Android operating system has grown from 0.02 percent to 0.20 percent.

It’s also interesting to note that iOS now has a larger share than Linux as well. In October 2009, Linux had a 0.96 share of the market, dropping to 0.85 percent in August 2010.

“It’s something to take note of when a mobile operating system passes something that’s been around forever,” Vince Vizzaccaro, a Net Applications vice president, told Computerworld, talking about iOS overtaking Linux. “Mobile’s growth curve is strong, and mobile is becoming quite a phenomenon on the Internet.”

It’s no surprise to see that Windows took the top spot with Mac OS in second place among all operating systems.

That’s because Android devices are prone to crashes and inconsistent operation to the point that most users don’t use more than the phone part.

If that’s true–and it may be, as I use at least a half-dozen apps daily which never crash on my Apple iPhone 3GS, and which are frequently updated automatically via the App Store–then it’s both funny and sad that these Apple critics “don’t get it” and are shooting themselves in the foot for the sake of their precious (obsessive/compulsive) “openness” and “choices.”

    Here’s my take on Android:

The Media is so scared of an ever growing Apple: Music, Movies, Books, etc.. That they’re desperate for a competitor. And an open system, like MS Windows is the ideal platform- free from an Apple “tax” or Apple approval.

In it’s desire for this open and “free” platform, it’s willing to overlook all the shortcomings of Android as long as it can deliver what they desire in the long run.

If you listen to newscast, or read articles you can almost see how they’re forcing the mentioning of Android along side iPhone & iOS4.

      I’m sorry, what?
“And an open system, like MS Windows is the ideal platform”

Not too often I see “open system” and “MS Windows” in the same sentence.
Probably a reason for that, now what was it….

I know Windows is not open like let’s say some versions of Linux might be. My point is that the “Media” doesn’t want to pay Apple for posting their content in the Apple Store. You know the 70-30 split. They consider that a tax, of which they see Android as the eventual method of bypassing this tax.

    I don’t care about size.
    It is NOT a contest.
Apple is growing a new market of smart devices (a “smarket”).
    iPhones replace stupid phones.
    iPads are new.
