∞ Apple: White iPhone 4 won't be available until second half of July

Apple said on Wednesday that the white iPhone 4 will not be available until the second half of July.

Many people had hoped to order the white iPhone when the new device became available for pre-order, but a note on its Web site said it was not available. Apple said the white model has “proven more challenging to manufacture than expected.”

Apple said the black iPhone 4 is not affected by the delay.

    That really bothers me. When it wasn’t immediately available I expected a release during July, but the mention of “challenging manufacturing issues” makes me wonder, if it’s ‘safe’ buying a white iPhone 4.
    I used to have a white iPhone 3G, but I had constant problems with hairline fractures. After receiving four new (!) units with similar problems OOTB, Apple offered me a black 3GS.

    If so, I can stop waiting and order one through a friend of mine in London.

    That is what I am wondering mangochutney. Is there something different in the material that is inherently weaker than the black one. Or perhaps they are having trouble getting a consistent color.

      The worst thing about it is that by now, a pre-ordered black iPhone 4 won’t arrive in stores before the 14th of July.
      I might as well wait for the white one.

      It’s odd though, and I really don’t send my white iPhone in after a few weeks due to some stupid problem like discolouration.

      The problem as I understand it is that there’s a shortage of white unicorn horn powder, which they need to make the glass of the iPhone. Something in Apple’s manufacturing process turns it black.
