As it has for several years now, Apple is once again offering free Apple Camp at its retail store locations. This year’s Apple Camp has a specific focus – helping kids learn the ins and outs of iMovie, the videomaking software included with iLife ’09.

Developed for kids ages 8 – 12, Apple Camp takes place in three sessions over three days (each session is about one to one and a half hours long). Kids learn the basics of moviemaking on the Mac, and they learn techniques like theme selection and storyboarding. Then they’re encouraged to shoot footage – either using their own cameras, after the first session is done, or in the store, using cameras lent to them by the Apple Camp “Counselors.”

The second day consists of actually using iMovie to create a movie. Then on the third day, they can showcase their finished works (if they want) during a “Film Festival.”

During the first day, parents also can participate in an optional one-hour session to learn more about how to use Mac OS X’s Parental Controls feature.
