∞ MarsEdit 3.0 adds rich text editor

One of my favorite Mac developers, Daniel Jalkut, on Tuesday released MarsEdit 3.0, adding a number of new features for the blogging tool.

MarsEdit 3.0Perhaps the biggest change in the new version is the addition of a rich text editor. This means that you can use the traditional HTML editor and keep an eye on any styled text, lists and other elements.

Another big change in 3.0 is the integration of iPhoto, Aperture and Lightroom. After choosing a photo, you can specify the size, name and alt text, all within the MarsEdit interface.

MarsEdit 3.0 also includes advanced syntax highlighting, which makes it a lot easier to find problems in the code.

There are a few additions for WordPress users too. You can now download, edit and create pages for WordPress blogs and you can configure custom fields in MarsEdit to customize the post editing interface.

MarsEdit 3.0 costs $39.95 and is available from the Red Sweater Web site.

(This story was posted using MarsEdit 3.0. Yes, I like it that much.)

Significant enhancements to MarsEdit have been a long time coming. I’ve been using MarsEdit for years and I’m just happy it finally got some of the features I have wanted. MarsEdit has been so far behind that recently I had started using Microsoft’s LiveWriter ( on Windows! Ack!).

Funny, even with some of the new features, I still like the HTML editor the best.

Old dog, new tricks, I guess :D

I used to like this app… but I swear I don't see a lick of change in it since… well, since ever. Rich Text edit? That's the big sales point? Syntax highlighting? iPhoto integration?

How about something that isn't 5 years behind the times. WYSIWYG input into a structured stylesheet should be a no-brainer, I'm surprised nobody has done this yet, and that Red Sweater hasn't taken it on. How abou something truly useful like syncing the darn database/posts between two Macs before they get uploaded (when they're still in draft status). I could really use that feature.

Honestly, I loved this app years ago when it was "new" – but I just don't see a single thing about it that's better than WordPress' default web input page anymore.
