∞ Apple updates Digital Camera Raw Compatibility software

Apple has posted an update to its Digital Camera Raw Compatibility software – the new update is version 3.2, and it adds support for new camera models and addresses issues with supported cameras, as well.

The software is available for download from Apple’s Web site and can also be downloaded through the Software Update system preference.

Digital Camera Raw Compatibility software is used by applications like iPhoto ’09 and Aperture 3. It enables application software and the operating system to manipulate the “raw” files produced by many digital cameras, rather than relying on an intermediary encoding scheme like JPEG or TIFF. It enables software to manipulate the digital camera equivalent of a film negative – the image that corresponds to the original exposure.

New camera models supported by this release include the Canon EOS Rebel T2i/550D/Kiss X4; Leica S2; Olympus E-450, E-600 and E-620; and Sony Alpha DSLR-A230, DSLR-A330, DSLR-A380 and Sony Alpha DSLR-A450.

Apple reports that the 3.2 update also “addresses RAW processing issues” for cameras already supported by previous versions. Those include the Canon EOS 30D; Pentax K-x and Pentax K-7 models.
