∞ Jobs: Apple sold 450,000 iPads

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said during the iPhone event on Thursday that Apple sold 450,000 iPads since the product launched last week.

Jobs also said the company sold more than 600,000 iBooks and customers have downloaded more than 3.5 million iPad apps, according to Engadget. There are over 3,500 iPad specific apps in the App Store as of today.

In addition to selling the iPad at its retail stores, Apple also sold the device at select Best Buy Stores. As of today, Jobs said that all Best Buy stores are sold out.

Apple announced on Monday that it had sold 300,000 iPads the first day it went on sale.

300k on Saturday, closed on Sunday, 50k each of the first 3 weekdays since. that's pretty good numbers for a unique item launch. if that rate holds steady they should clear one million around April 20th. If the weekend numbers go up (as they often do) it could be closer to the 5th. how fast did they get to 1 mill on the first iphone. wasn't it like 2 months. the second phone (with apps) did it in like a week. so I'd say that 2 weeks for the ipad is a fair average.

It goes to what I've been saying for a while – that the iPad adoption was going to be a slow burn, comparative to the iPhone launch.

The wild-ass guessing I've seen analysts predict on iPad sales in the first year vary by as much as 100 percent, which tells me they really have no idea how this product is going to do, so it'll be interesting long-term to track what the iPad sells.
