By Jim DalrympleMarch 17, 2010, 6:08 am PT

Mac software tracking site, MacUpdate, launched its spring software bundle on Wednesday, offering users 10 apps for $49.99.

mu 300x207 MacUpdate Spring 2010 Software Bundle launchesThe “MacUpdate Spring 2010 Bundle” works the same as previous bundles. MacUpdate works with developers to offer their apps in a bundle at a reduced cost for consumers. The end result is a big savings for users.

This year the bundle includes Parallels 5 ($79); Bee Docs Timeline 3D ($65); Spell Catcher ($39.95); Hydra ($79.95); Back-In-Time ($29); ForeverSave ($14.95); Hyperspaces ($12.95); Web Snapper ($15); Mac DVDRipper Pro ($9.95); and MacScan ($29.99).

All of the apps cost $49 until March 31, 2010. The first 10,000 buyers will also get DVDRemaster Pro ($49) as part of their bundle.

If you would like to help support The Loop, you can use this link to purchase the bundle from MacUpdate and they will throw a little cash back to us.

  1. They are all full newest versions of the apps.

    Thanks Jim.

I'm surprised: as a verification engineer at a software company, that price point strikes
me as someone's marketing group must be taking a bath on those price points…
    (especially Parallels!!!)

but I'm off to go spend my money. :-) :-)

  3. No catch! We've been doing this for a while — it's all about mass purchasing power and the longstanding relationships MacUpdate has enjoyed with its developer partners for years.

The only shortcoming, if one can call it that, is that the Parallels license is restricted to the U.S. English version of the app because of how Parallels handles its licensing (similarly, a French Parallels license can only work on the French version of the software). Of course, you can still run the U.S. English version of Parallels on any Mac regardless of what Mac OS X localization you're using or country you live in.

Having said that, other bundles DO have catches… some will give you versions of apps that are not eligible for free updates or discounted upgrades later, for example. Or you don't get any support. But our bundles always have the exact same features, support, and upgrade opportunities as if you bought the apps at full price individually.

If you ever discover any catch with our bundles I'll personally hop a plane to Ottawa and buy you a drink at the Château Laurier.

I'm trying to figure out what is more funny: that I've run into someone who KNOWS OTTAWA, or the super quick response. I live in the west end, and don't go downtown, but even if I don't find a catch, if you have an excuse to be in Ottawa, I'll share that drink (a nice tea perhaps) at the Chateau with you.

Just downloaded the bundle, and am looking forward to playing.. errrrrr WORKING with the tools in it.

I did some 'back reading' on The Loop and realized that I now how I had vaguely recognized MacUpdate: I HAD heard of this… for the Holiday bundle that had interested me, but I had the same concerns
and I missed out on it, because I spent too much time being suspicious… :-(

Thanks again and have a great day.

  5. You guys could always hop a plane to Halifax :)

Ok Jim, I purchased the bundle via your link so as to make sure The Loop gets some cash back. It's the least I can do to show support for your great web site. Besides, we Canadians have to stick together, eh!B)

    • I appreciate that!! I hope you enjoy the apps.

Like others have stated here already, Parallels was worth the price alone & I certainly will use most all of the rest of the bundle.

Speaking of Parallels, I am very impressed so far with it's overall function and the fact that I have been able to run some games that require Direct x 9 which I was not able to do using Virtual Box.

The bundle is worth every cent so if your mulling it over, go ahead and get while you still can!

What's with all these bundles coming out? Jesus.

In saying that grabbed my copy purely for parallels being cheaper, the rest of the applications are purely a bonus. One gripe for me is the download speed 4 hours for 338 MB? I know I am in Australia but I have already fired up the diesel generator and the internet is running quite quickly down here and the kangaroo has been tied down it still seems rather slow.

    Um…. ok…. So what's the catch?

In the "too good to be true" category, this seems WAAAY up there.

    Crippled Apps? Bloated with Ad-Ware???
