Apple gives Tim Cook $22 million performance bonus

By Jim DalrympleMarch 12, 2010, 2:48 pm PT

Apple gave its Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook, a $22 million performance bonus on Friday. The bonus was split between a cash bonus of $5 million and the rest as restricted stock. Cook’s bonus was approved by the board on Friday after being recommended by Steve Jobs. He was apparently given the bonus for his performance while filling in for CEO Steve Jobs while he was off on medical leave.

What a different life these people have from the rest of us. I can't imagine someone handing me a check for $5 million and saying "Oh, yeah, here's $17 million worth of stock, too." But I don't begruge him the bonus. Filling in for Steve Jobs is no easy task and he did a good job.
