∞ Why isn't Apple using Intel's i7 processor?

We’ve all been waiting for Apple to release new MacBook Pros with Intel’s i7 processors, but so far nothing. There could be a million reasons for it. In fact, it could be Apple’s decision to roll out the iPad first and then the new Macs. Seth Weintraub at 9 to 5 Mac has a few thoughts on the subject that include Apple’s relationship with Nvidia and Intel.

Why doesn’t Apple get Intel’s best chips anymore? [9 to 5 Mac]

How far behind is Apple in releasing hardware that makes use of the new chips, compared to the rest of the industry?

honestly I really don't care if Apple is using the latest and greatest if I can get my work done. I would rather they use a stable, proven, issueless but slightly older processor than shove in something new and hawk it at me like a street vendor.

    1) Because they don't want to be saddled with Intel's hideously bad graphics solutions, and Intel has all but made it impossible for vendors such as Nvidia to supply them for the latest Nehalem chips.

    2) Because Intel's latest offerings are a step backwards in performance/price and performance/heat.

I don't think there's anything conspiratorial going on; Intel's not retaliating against Apple or slowing down its product availability or anything. I think Apple is just trying to get the machines ready to release, and for whatever reason (be it some bugs, or production issues, or design problems) they're not ready quite as early as we would like. Not a big deal.

They may be waiting for the chips with 32nm graphics cores. This is not my area of expertise, but the current gen is the ones with processor cores that are 32nm and the graphics cores are 45nm, right? And the next gen due later this year are 32nm both ends. That might be it. Frankly, though, I think all attention is on the iPad.

I'm not sure, but I want one!! Looks like I will be waiting this one out.
