The revamped graphics and the fact that the extra content contains the word "Souls" seems to indicate so. She spent some time with the iPhone version and declared it a success. She's played through the Game Boy Advance version a few times and says the controls are easier to use on the iPhone and the graphics look better too. She's anxiously awaiting Apple to announce a new iPhone, because she knows I'm going to hand down my 3G to her... Yeah, the price is bound to raise some eyebrows - $8.99 isn't cheap for an iPhone game these days - but I think Final Fantasy commands a premium on its name alone, and Square Enix certainly understands that.
