Pixelmator image editor update adds brushes collections

By Jim DalrympleFebruary 24, 2010, 8:40 am PT

One of my favorite apps, Pixelmator, was updated recently adding a ton of improvements, bug fixes and a new feature called Brushes Collections.

pixelmator iphoto 300x259 Pixelmator image editor update adds brushes collectionsAccording to the notes that comes with the update, Pixelmator made over 20 improvements to this release. Included in the “improved” segment is the ability to change the background color of the work area by right-clicking on an area outside the canvas and choosing white, grey, or black; Automator actions are now compatible with Snow Leopard; Pixelmator now works properly as an external editor for iPhoto; and Clipboard content is now pasted into the center of the viewable canvas area.

There are a dozen bug fixes in this release as well, including a bug that sometimes caused ruler measurements to show incorrectly; borderless printing has been fixed; and a crash that could happen when closing documents has been addressed.

Pixelmator 1.5.1 is a free update for registered users. For new users the app costs $59.

  1. <3 Pixelmator. It hasn't replaced photoshop for me just yet, but it's certainly getting more and more daily use from me.

  2. It's nice having an imaging editing app that doesn't take forever to load, that doesn't eat up my valuable cycles, and that doesn't cost a fortune.

I tried Pixelmator a few months ago, and while the interface was fairly nice, I was surprised that adding a drop shadow to a picture in a composition was surprisingly hard to do (I would have thought that's a pretty common operation out there). Has that changed at all?
