∞ Apple reaches 10 billion iTunes downloads

Apple hit another milestone on Wednesday as the company hit 10 billion downloads from its iTunes Store.

Apple held a contest with a $10,000 iTunes gift card to the person that downloads the 10 billionth song. The company hasn’t released the information on who won the contest, but note on its site that the contest is over.

We will bring you the winner’s info as soon as it becomes available.

What will they celebrate next, 100 billion? They are just so far ahead.

I'd say 20B, but I hope they don't go the way of McDonald's when they stopped counting billions of hamburgers sold and just changed the sign to "billions sold". I hope someone keeps keeping track and I want to keep seeing the historical graph of sales since Day One. That's a beautiful geometric curve up steeper and steeper!

wonder if this is the new "Tuesday" since events were always on Tuesdays now they are on Wednesday, also wonder if it had something to do with jobs birthday today?

To answer Jim's question with my supposition, I think 100B is too long to go without a trumpet blast and 15B is too close now for a full-on celebration.

However, I don't think we'll celebrate at 20B either. There will be one more press release at 20B on Apple's Hot News page and then celebrate 25,000,000,000…. then 50B,… then 75B — finally a really big prize package at 100B. (Quiet press releases at the other multiples of 5s until that number's reached (sometime around 2020, I'd guess.

Funny thing,… even after 100,000,000,000 songs sold, the Record Labels will still be pissing and moaning about unfair they have it. :-) (god, I hate them)
