EA releases Monopoly for iPhone and iPod touch

By Peter CohenNovember 20, 2009, 5:23 pm PT

Electronic Arts (EA) has released an adaptation of the original Monopoly board game for the iPhone and iPod touch. It costs $4.99 and is available for download from the App Store.

monopoly 300x200 EA releases Monopoly for iPhone and iPod touchThis is the first iPhone and iPod touch adaptation of the original, classic board game in which you buy, sell and trade properties like Marvin Gardens and Boardwalk, building houses and hotels to drive up rents. You can shake your device to roll the 3D dice, play through three levels of difficulty and save games along the way.

Multiplayer support lets you play against up to three friends on the same network using Wi-Fi or “Pass ‘n’ Play” multiplayer, or up to two friends using Bluetooth-based multiplayer support.

This is not the first appearance of the Monopoly franchise on the App Store. Earlier this year EA released Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition, an updated version of the game with real-estate locations like Paris, Rome and Barcelona. While versions of that game were lauded by reviewers and received awards, EA was criticized for not offering the original Monopoly game as well.

System requirements call for an iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS 2.2.1 or later.

Wow this would be fun, especially if you can link up with friends and play.

I am homebound and enjoyed playing several computer games but that ceased when I dumped my PC and bought an iMac. I can’t afford Iphone as well and would be delighted if sensible games, ie not only kid’s games, were to be made available for the iMac.
