Rock Band comes to the iPhone

By Peter CohenOctober 19, 2009, 1:26 pm PT

After a few pretenders and some bona fide music games in their own right have made appearances on the App Store, EA Mobile has released a real version of Rock Band, the popular music rhythm game, for the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s available for download now for $10.Rock Band is an adaptation of the enormously popular video game console title, in which you “play” musical instruments by tapping out patterns of color in time with the music. As you get more proficient and run up higher scores, you get to play better venues, collecting rewards and achievements along the way.

You can play guitar, bass, drums or even do vocals. The game features three levels of difficult and support for solo or multiplayer capabilities (Bluetooth connectivity is supported, along with Facebook Connect).

The game includes 20 songs from rock and roll bands including Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Motorhead and many others; when you’re bored with what’s included, you can also use In-App Purchases to purchase and download more songs (five 99-cent packs, each containing two songs, have been made available to start along with the game itself).

The game requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later; EA Mobile recommends iPhone OS 3.1 or later for best results. Bluetooth support isn’t available on the first-generation iPhone or the first-gen iPod touch.
