I detest this sort of "I know better how to run its business than Apple"-kind of attitude, based, or at least blithely colored by gossip-quality "data."

For better or for worse, Apple is in charge of its iPhone system, what is allowed in, and just what those apps can do.

Apple's success with its iPhone is due in no small part to the integrity and consistency of the "user experience" which has been carefully crafted in its system and user interface.

Its approval process, no matter how apparently flawed to some, is designed to preserve those aspects of the iPhone.

To expect that Apple would willy-nilly give up that control so that Google or any other third party developer could rip into and/or bypass that system with its apps is completely insane.

Hmmm, "not approved" seems kind of fishy. I am disappointed that whilst we read of Apple's response to the FCC, the relevant and interesting answers in Google's response was redacted. Perhaps there really is another side to this story?
