Love Flickr! Don't care who owns it. As for the Web mail. I actually prefer the features and look of Yahoo's Web mail, but Gmail is just more convenient - especially since I use MailPlane to manage multiple accounts.

MacJim - for what reason? There have been plenty of examples of user data being handed over to authorities by the ISP, showing that your data security risks transcend any individual websites.

Avoiding best-in-class services because of ownership/investor stake seems like cutting off the nose to spite the face.

I suspect 90% of webmail users (and users of other hosted services such as Flickr) use it because of the quality of the service, rather than the background detail.

Thoughts:

How many of those unique users are spammers using an account for just long enough to spew out a zillion spams, and then sign up for another account, generating yet another "unique user"?

And are Hotmail and Yahoo home to more such accounts?

Both of you need to read the article ;)

Unique visitors per month is what they are counting, not accounts, unused or not.

As the measurement is of unique visitors I don't think it matters how many accounts are active.
