Speculation of an Apple event in September broke earlier today, but The Loop has learned the event will not include the introduction of the rumored Apple tablet.
Very reliable sources familiar with the product have said speculation of the tablet being introduced during the September event are flat out wrong. The Apple tablet, they said, would not see the light of day until the first part of 2010.
The event in September will be focused on music, which means we could see new iPods and perhaps some updates to iTunes. The tablet computer will not even be mentioned as part of the event, my sources said.
Apple will use the September event to launch new products for the holiday shopping season, typically a lucrative time for sales of devices like the iPod.
Makes sense. Just because bloggers want a tablet now doesn’t mean Apple is required to provide it. Releasing it now would just screw up the sales channels anyway and also futher reduce iPods sales. And that would be as a result of people waiting to make purchases of the new device.
I would imagine Apple holding a special event to announce the “iTouch” around March, and shipping it in May, as technically still the first half of 2010.
That sounds like a decent timeframe to me.
Any idea when Apple may finally refresh/release the iMac?
Seems to me that it’d be a perfect time with the unveiling of Snow Leopard & the new iTunes enhancement, not to mention the upcoming holiday season & students getting back to school.
This sounds about right based on the recent “leaks” from macrumor forums. The software software shown on a “dev machine” was not anywhere near ready for a 2009 release. If you choose to believe them, that is.
Yes, and the reason is that the 10” OLED panel that will use begining in production from LG in the 1Q10.
Meanwhile, Apple sold 5 million iPhones to its Chinese market partner for about $300 each, paid up front (no wait for subsidy payment after the sale to customer).
Financially, that’s should be bigger news than the new iPods or even the tablet, at least for the near term.
Mac OS X will not be announced at this early September event – not music related. “Rumor has it” that it will go on sale Aug. 28th.
My guess is that there may be two things delaying the “iTablet”
- The OLED displays mentioned above
- I also wonder if perhaps they are also waiting for their new internally developed chip set?
After all – they want a Revolution, not just Evolution.
Give me one device that does it all please. My pockets look a squirrel storing up for the winter. I’d like to combine:
1. My iPhone
2. My higher pixel digital camera that also does video clips
3. My Kindle
4. My high-capacity iPod (I need over 100GB to store all my media and the iPhone won’t cut it)
I used to throw my PDA into this list before my iPhone, but it combined those nicely.
You give me a table that does all of these things about the size of the Kindle 2 (I could do video conferencing on a screen like that!) and I will gladly haul something that size around everywhere. ![]()
i have just read over many blogs and news sites that it will be introduced in September.
Maybe they were posted before this article published.
